Paul Mann

WRITTEN BY HIS WIDOW, (SISTER) MARGARETE MANN: Elder Paul R. Mann, Sr., was born on January 29, 1907, in Barnesville, GA. Brother Paul was fatally injured in an automobile accident on March 4, 1988. He was survived by his wife, Margarete L. Mann, two daughters, Joanne, Rebecka, and one son, Paul Roger Mann, Jr., two sisters, Ruth Huffman, Vinnie Towner, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Much appreciation to Elder Gus Harter in his kindness to ask for this information on behalf of Elder Mann. Paul called Brother Gus "his second son."

 Brother Paul was a loving father to his children and a good husband for many years. We have missed him in so many ways and precious memories of him will linger with us forever. He lived a full and ripe life, always standing for the truth in the Primitive Baptist faith and on numerous occasions with lots of patience.

Elder Mann joined Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in Atlanta in 1926, when the church was constituted. He was the first member baptized, which his little eight-year-old-sister, Ruth Mann Huffman, witnessed. Elder Mann was ordained in 1940 and served several churches: East Point, Atlanta, Port Orange, Port Orange, FL, El Bethel, Tampa, FL, Liberty near Barnesville, GA, High Shoals near Barnesville, Sandy Creek in Jackson, GA and New Hope in Winter Garden, FL.

He wrote articles for many Primitive Baptist Publications, i.e., Advocate Messenger, Gospel Appeal, The Primitive Baptist, The Christian Pathway, The Baptist Witness, The Pathway of Truth, and The

Elder Mann graduated from Georgia Industrial College, Barnesville, GA in 1930. Their class motto was "Not on the heights, but climbing." He joined the National Guard at the age of 19 in 1926 and received a direct commission from the Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1940.

He held many high executive and staff assignments during his military life, including a World War II post of Assistant Adjutant General of Far East Headquarters. His service in Europe included several service command units during a three-year period. He was also Adjutant of the Signal Corp. Center at Fort Monmouth, NJ, in the office of General McArthur during court proceedings. He holds many ribbons and decorations earned during his service in the Far East and Europe. Lt. Col. Paul R. Mann, Adjutant of the Military District for two years, retired March 31, 1954 after 28 years of active service. A retirement ceremony was held for him at Fort McPherson, GA. Brother Lester and Sister Ruth Huffman, many friends and I attended the ceremony.

WRITTEN BY ELDER GUS HARTER: Elder Paul Mann was a man of unquestioned integrity and Christian character. He was also a role model of a loving pastor and faithful servant. He was one of my fathers in the ministry.
