Floy Gross

FROM THE BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF PRIMITIVE OR OLD SCHOOL BAPTIST MINISTERS BY DAVID MONTGOMERY AD MARK GREEN: ELDER FLOY F. GROSS Elder Gross was born April 1, 1913, near Atlanta, Mo., the son of Elmo andLora (Grubbs) Gross. He united with Chariton Church in 1931 and began almostimmediately to take a public part in the service. He served as moderator of the church for a short while, before moving away from the area. In August of 1936, he was married to Naomi Ratliff of near Unionville, Mo. After marriage, they remained on a farm in Macon County for a period of two years. During this time their daughter, Carol, was born. Soon after leaving the bounds of Chariton Church, Bro. Gross had hismembership moved to Hazel Creek Church, near Greentop, Mo., where his wifealready held membership. In October 1947, Bro. Gross was ordained to the full work of the gospel ministry, and began almost immediately to serve churches. He served the churches, West Union, Brush Creek, and Little Zion. He served as editor of the church publication, Gospel Witness from 1962-1977, at which time he suffered a stroke which caused him to be unable to speak. He still very much enjoyed attending the area churches, and very clearly made everyone know when he agreed with the preacher. Elder Gross passed away on April 15, 1988. Many of the articles he has written have been compiled in the book, "Sovereign Grace."
