Elder Blackshear was ordained to the ministry on May 29, 1949, at the Waco Primitive Baptist Church. He and his wife, Sister Hallie, were married in a service officiated by Elder J.A. Monsees in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 15, 1912. He served as pastor of both the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Izoro, Texas, and the United Primitive Baptist Church in Hamilton, Texas.
