Elder Lowell McClain is from the Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Logansport, Louisiana. updated 08/2017 --------------------------------------------- Obituary From Ronnie Mallow News Letter: The Passing of Elder Lowell Dean McClain July 29, 1921 - May 3, 2018 Lowell Dean McClain was born on July 29, 1921 near Kirby, Arkansas to Sherman “Clay” McClane and Laura (Henthorn) McClane. Yes, the name “McClane” was the correct spelling at the time of his birth. The family moved to Hill County, Texas in 1922 – soon after the spelling of the name was changed to “McClain”. Are that same time two other families names Henthorn and Horn also relocated and began to meet for Church services around Hubbard, Texas. The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church in Hubbard, Texas was constituted in 1925. Elder E.L. (Edgar Lee) Kemp was the first pastor and he was followed by Elder Lonnie Horn. Elder Horn had gone back for a visit to Arkansas when young Lowell McClain joined the Church in 1935, so he was baptized by Elder Gilbert Dalton. Elder McClain enlisted in the Army Air Corps during the early part of World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and specifically spent time in the Philippines. He was discharged from the United States Air Force in 1946 and returned to his wife Sis. Juanita (Phillips) and young family in Princeton, Texas. He provided for his family as a Baker at Finney’s Bakery in McKinney, Texas. Finney’s also had a pastry shop and it wasn’t long before Bro. Lowell was making his famous pecan pies and cakes. He would eventually become move to the Veterans Administration Hospital in McKinney, Texas and retire in 1962 as Head Baker at the Veterans Administration. During his ministry, Elder McClain was called to pastor the Union Primitive Baptist Church in Dixie/Whitesboro, Texas, the Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in Arledge Ridge, Texas, the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Maud, Texas and the New Ramah Primitive Baptist Church in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana and the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Blanchard, Louisiana. He may have actually served more than those and was a blessing to so many other Church bodies
