Clarke Lee

Elder Wilbur "Clarke" Lee. My full name is Wilbur ClarkeLee, and I was born into this world in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred fifty-six. My parents are Leon (deceased) and Pauline Lee, and I was raised and continue to live in the small rural town of Hoboken, Georgia. On August 24, 1985, I married Julie M. Lee from nearby Waycross, Georgia. We were both brought up in the oldest and strictest line of primitive Baptist who did not, and still do not, correspond with others of like faith. Our firstborn son was stillborn, which we believe was one of God's ways of preparing us for service in the ministry. We have a son, Riley Clarke Lee, born in 1988, and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Lee, born in 1990, and have been abundantly blessed by God thus far in our lives. On May 11, 1974, at the age of 17, God in His infinite mercy brought me to the fold at High Bluff PBC located about 5 miles from where I was born and raised, and I was baptized the next day by Elder Tollie Lee. A few months later, 4 others and I moved our membership to Oak Grove PBC to keep the church from being disbanded. This church home was located about 5 miles from where I moved when I left my parents' home and moved into my own. At Oak Grove, I served as church clerk for many years until 1996. My wife's and my family have been Sacred Harp Singers and of the Primitive Baptist faith, and many continue to be involved in both areas of worship. In 1994, with restlessness in our hearts and an invitation from other Sacred Harp Singers, we began to attend Sacred Harp Sings in different parts of the country and found other Primitive Baptist people as well. Because these sings were opened and closed with prayer, and my home church being of the very strict and exclusive order, they declared we were mixing with religious societies and excluded me from membership in 1996. For the next several years we attended Sacred Harp Sings all over the United States and visited with many different faiths and orders of worship, which we could not do previously. God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, continued to fill our hearts with desire to be in fellowship with others who believed as we did, and we began attending services in the Alabama River Primitive Baptist Association and its affiliated correspondence. On February 07, 1999, I was received upon confession of faith by Mars Hill PBC. In July of 1999, I made my first confession to the church that I felt called to preach. On September 04, 1999, I was licensed to practice in the ministry, and on September 02, 2000, came under the hands of the presbytery and was duly ordained to be a Minister of the Gospel, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to exercise in the office of an Elder. In October of that same year I was called to pastor Big Creek PBC on the 3rd Sunday of each month. In October of 2006, I was called to pastor at my home church, Mars Hill PBC, on the 1st Sunday of each month, and in January of 2007, I was called to pastor Empire PBC on the 4th Sunday in each month. I continue to serve these churches, by God's free grace, to date. (Note: The churches in our association meet monthly on a particular weekend each month) My wife joined me in the ministerial journey when she united with Mars Hill PBC and was baptized May 05, 2001. Our daughter Mary is a member of Big Creek PBC, and our son has yet to make his public confession, though he has a very strong faith in the Lord Jesus. Sometime after January 2018, Elder Clarke Lee became pastor of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Odum, Georgia.
