Sermon Summary

Here is a Sermon By Elder David Pyles from Romans chapter one beginning at verse 14. At the outset, Elder Pyles speaks to the purpose of preaching, in that Paul preached to the wise and unwise. Paul was a debtor to preach to the orderly and disorderly, or to those in error. The comments by Elder Pyles highlight what few ministers succumb to: a siege mentality and thereby "surrender ground to the enemy." This is because these ministers are intimidated to take the gospel to errant brethren for fear.

He continues on what it means to preach from faith to faith in contrast with today's gospel that preaches from faith to no faith. In this, he speaks to the very purpose of the gospel. He describes how salvation is a broad term in Scripture that often mentions whether we are already saved, being saved, or not yet saved.

Then Elder Pyles focuses on why Paul was not ashamed of the gospel. This is an interesting point. I gathered from his comments that the answer was primarily because God is absolutely righteous and man, in his depraved state, is unequivocally and absolutely sinful & condemnd! He speaks to those in whom the wrath of God is revealed and mentions what they have in common, what they are without, and what they withhold! In stark contrast, how then could Paul be ashamed of all that God is and gave to him as an Apostle, namely the gospel of Christ? We are hence ashamed of humanity, not the gospel.

Someone has said that preaching is teaching and teaching is preaching. Here is a good example. Trust the Lord to bless you in the study of His word. Sermon continues on Side 2 with a detailed explanation of Time Salvation.
