Sermon Summary

The Promise Land - Better than Egypt! Deuteronomy 11:10-12

Elder Nathan Meeks sets out immediately to show these verses were a great encouragement to the Lord's people. Unlike Egypt, which was a place of bondage and barrenness and the wilderness journeys due to disobedience, the Promise Land would be a place of divine blessing and security by the Lord Himself. So the Lord, through Moses, will instruct about Canaan and the blessings which flow directly from the goodness of God.

In his sermon, Brother Nathan mentions certain characteristics of the Promise Land; the rain and it's consequences; rest from hardship and toil; reliance as the people trust God for all their provisions. He notes also that the promise land was a peculiar place in contrast with Egypt.

The part of the message you will find interesting and confirming is how Brother Nathan defines what Canaan's land, or the Promise Land represents. Does it represents heaven's pure and eternal world? Or does it represent the local church? He compares and contrasts as he sets forth that the Promise Land is a picture of the New Testament Church. He shows while there are enemies about us, the Church is a place of rest, a home where we learn of Christ and His spiritual nourishment to our souls.

His sermon concludes with a warning of sorts for those who are discouraged by the difficulty of the way. And wishing to retreat to Egypt. No matter how bad it seems as we live in this world and we attend our churches, Canaan's land is still better than Egypt!

A wonderful and uplifting message!

Elder Nathan Meeks is the Pastor of Fort Wayne Primitive Baptist Church in Indiana.
