Sermon Summary

Elder S.T. Tolley was the former editor and publisher of the once popular 'Christian Baptist' out of Atwood, Tennessee. Brother Tolley has been one of the most influential ministers during his preaching days because of his God-given spiritual ability to teach the Bible. When you hear him preach, you are hearing clear Scriptural exegesis and Biblical church history all in one. It is that perspective that enables the listener to get a well-balanced explanation of the subject.

Did you know that the Bible commands us to be baptized a certain way? He gives us the reason the translators kept the Greek word untranslated in our King James Bible. He describes in detail what the word "baptize" means.

The sermon is divided into two major divisions: what baptism is, and secondly, what it is for, or what it does for you.

He looks at the baptism of our Lord and raises points concerning what was becoming of Christ to be baptized. Baptism, he said, "did not make Jesus Christ the Son of God, but He, being baptized, fulfilled all righteousness."

He also speaks on Acts 8:36 concerning the Eunuch's baptism in water. And draws the distinction that the subject is baptism, not the water. Also, he references Acts 2:37-38 and one of the most misunderstood texts in the Bible, Mark 16:16. He will answer questions about rebaptism, and many other points will be raised concerning this subject.

If you want Biblical reasons why baptism is immersion, then this sermon is one to hear.

Preached at Mt Carmel Church in Bel Air, Md., on August 28th, 1975.

Brother Tolley passed from this life on December 23, 2015. Please visit the Minister's Section to read his history.
