Sermon Summary

THIS SERMON WAS PREACHED AT THE 30th ANNIVERSARY MEETING WITH CINCINNATI CHURCH, 1988.

It was an afternoon sermon however the preaching was lively and the crowd was attentive. The text –1 Peter 1:15-16, the subject – “Be Ye Holy”.

Here is another proof that the Gospel messages are timeless truths. Brother Bryant uses the text as did Peter, to admonish, encourage and teach the Lord’s people the practical applications of the holiness of God.

He begins with confronting a popular notion that God’s children are perfect and never suffer complete apostasy, and therefore would never need to be admonished to be holy. He elaborates on this particular subject which reinforces again why Primitive Baptist are not Calvinists. Many have heard Primitive Baptists are hyper Calvinists which is an unfounded label. This sermon may help you better understand what Primitive Baptists believe the Scriptures to teach.

The sermon marks a variety of reasons why we need to be holy; because it is written, because our God is holy, because our heavenly Father is a compassionate judge of His people…and several other reasons. Please note the references to the popular movie of that day, ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ as Brother Bryant warns us against Hollywood’s influence in our lives. You will like the illustrations of the TV and the closet and the note about older ministers; we don’t retire them, we just retread them and put them back on the road!

Finally, a charge is given to the young people not to lend their bodies over to the devil and this world for the gratification of the lust of the flesh.

It’s a great sermon, for which we are thankful. Again we must say, this site is not to elevate any preacher, but to make the opportunity of getting the preached word out and available.

When we say ‘great sermon’ we mean that the message was clear use of the Scripture and presented in a spirit-filled manner for the edification of the believer and unto the glory of God.
