Sermon Summary

Elder Pyles preaches this sermon in 1985 at Forrest Park Primitive Baptist Church.

Using Philippians 2:6-11 as a text, Brother Pyles expounds on the significance of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Showing the difference between those who may call Jesus as 'Master' and others who call Him 'Jesus' and others yet who call Him 'Lord.'

He is referring to God's Son, and the Godhead. While many speak of Jesus as Master.

Many people, Pyles says, may use your same vocabulary, but will use a different dictionary.

Then turns to the name Christ. Meaning (His divine name) in the Greek form for the old Jewish name for Messiah. It points to the divinity. He was more than a mortal man.
Jesus referred to Himself as the resurrection. Martha said, I believe that thou art THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD,(John 11:27). The Lord did not rebuke her for it because it was an accepted truth by the Lord.

Pyles notes that while God is the name as Creator, the name LORD GOD, first appears after man is made. Because the Lord is a covenant God, and points to the eternal covenant of grace. And the Lord is none other than God in Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul will speak to Jesus, primarily to His divinity and therefore he speaks mainly as Christ Jesus. Because the name he uses, “The Son of God” pointing to His divine nature.
He finishes the sermon emphasizing the full name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Paul over and over again refers to Jesus as such.

What do you believe about Jesus? A Good Master, a Teacher or the Lord Jesus Christ!
