Sermon Summary

Buddy Abernathy preached this message at Mt. Carmel Church in Bel Air, Maryland, Sunday evening, October 3rd, 2010.

The message opens with an introduction to the wide variety of experiences among Primitive Baptists, the traditions and doctrines that have come down from previous generations and the hope that our children and grand children will be able to have the same. He recognized generational changes and experiences, but hoped the simplicity of the Gospel of Christ, as he himself learned as a young man, would be a blessing for the young and old alike today. One of those special blessings for him, was the Scriptural teachings concerning the purpose of the Gospel.

The Gospel has a purpose in the life of the children of God. This sermon elevates the positive reasons for the Gospel. He begins with 2 Tim 1:9 & 10 and draws the contrast between what Christ has done for us, and the Gospel which brings to light that saving work of the Lord for His people. All of which is by grace.

From this point a variety of Scriptures are used to bring out the differences between eternal salvation and Gospel deliverances. 2 Thess 3:1-2; Rom 10:4; Lk 8:12; 2 Cor 5:17-20; Acts 26:17-18; 1 Cor 14:22-25; 1 Cor 16:9 and more!

Elder Abernathy was the invited guest speaker at the Annual Meeting with Wilmington Church in Delaware and also had appointments at Mt. Carmel.
