Sermon Summary

The original copy of this message comes from the archives of Elder David Montgomery.

Elder Stephen Emmons is Pastor of San Angelo PB Church in Texas. He is a Doctor of Music at Angelo State University.

In this sermon, he asks the question, Why do Primitive Baptists do things differently? Why do the Primitive Baptists sing without the accompaniment of musical instruments? What Scriptures do we follow to establish the worship services? Is singing a part of worship? These questions and many more are answered in this well thought out sermon.

Primitive Baptists have nothing against musical instruments or talented people who can play them. Elder Emmons is no stranger to quality musical talent! He simply understands the Bible to teach us how to worship within the corporate body of the NT Church.

This sermon will explain the fundamental Scriptural reasons for it and the proper template for NT singing. Elder Emmons will also present every NT Scripture about singing. He addresses various arguments and objections with some real practical considerations.

Primitive Baptists love to sing. They sing experientially and doctrinally based hymns. It is very refreshing to be a part of a worship service whose entire focus is the glory of Christ. They do not follow NT rule of faith and practice because they have to, as in compulsion, but because they want to. Singing a cappella encourages participation, harmony through unity, and a spirit of fellowship without a competitive atmosphere. It does not require any money or particular ability to perform or play an instrument. Rich and poor, young and old can sing, making melody in their hearts to the Lord.

The message is short but will leave you with plenty food for thought.
