Sermon Summary

THIS HOME MEETING TOOK PLACE AT THE HOME OF OSCAR AND PEARL LOWERY OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ON AUGUST 21, 1956.

Elder's Pat Byrd and J.A. Monsees were in the area attending the 1956 Annual Session of the Ketoctin Association. And while in Virginia they stopped by Baltimore and preached a home meeting. Home meetings were not uncommon amongst Old Baptist brethren. It was generally a way to introduce the Gospel to family members and neighbors. Several older church members I know were first introduced to Primitive Baptist preaching at home meetings. However we hear of fewer home meetings today. Regardless of how large the early church was considered to be, the scriptures tell us, they went "from house to house."

Elder Byrd opens with prayer and then speaks from 1 Cor. chapter 1. Then Elder Monsees speaks on the choices the children of God make using various illustrations from the Bible.

The recording is excellent and on occasion you will hear some children in the background. While these brethren are not in the formal church pulpit they nevertheless clearly taught the Bible in a way we all can understand. Preaching is preaching, in the pulpit or at home by the mantle !
