Sermon Summary

He preached at the 148th Annual Session of the Original Bear Creek Association September 1980.
This was preached on Sunday morning after prayer by Elder Raymond Pressley.

That prayer was answered as Elder Speir taught on the subject of the unique authority and commission of the Apostles. He goes over the general course of the Jewish brethren at Pentecost and the subsequent blessings of the early church when these brethren received the remission of sins. Elder Speir teaches ultimately on the particular power and authority that the Apostles were given by Jesus Christ himself to spread the Gospel.

This sermon is one of a few we have listed that elaborate on what the Bible teaches regarding the ‘Great Commission.’ (See also sermons by Elders Mark Green, Steven Jackson and, Freddy Boen on the 'Great Commission.') You will easily see the stark contrast between what you hear and what is popular regarding many subjects Elder Speir speaks on.

Elder Speir was a very knowledgeable and capable communicator. You will enjoy his teaching gift. To my understanding, his positions represent what the Primitive Baptists have long held on this subject.

Today, many of our able ministers reflect kindly on the wisdom and gentleness of this preacher who loved to travel among the churches. You will want to read more about him in our ‘Ministers’ section.

I hope you are blessed listening to this man of God expound on many of our core Biblical teachings that Old Baptists love.
