Sermon Summary

This sermon was delivered at Columbia Primitive Baptist Church, July 3rd, 1957. A young man by the name of Elva Lowery recorded it with his reel to reel recorder, now the pastor of Fellowship church in Baltimore.

Brother Patรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs sermon concentrates on the 3rd and 4th verse of 1 Thess. chapter 1. He talks on the subjects of faith, love and hope as evidences of our election of God. He says, "Hope stays with us, without it we would have no patience." Elder Byrd is not short on words and wit in this sermon. He certainly was a teacher and a preacher of the Gospel. (Please read his history in our ministers section.)

Many ministers today (Sonny Pyles and Sam Bryant to name a few) were highly influenced by his gifts and ability during his ministry. He was not shy nor ashamed of the Gospel and clearly taught the differences between the election of God in eternity and the manifestation of that election in time upon the children of God.

When Elder Byrd preached this sermon I was 6 months old and lived, by their standards, about an hour away. But my life's experience and what took place then at Columbia was so great a gulf that only sovereign grace could bridge it. Now, every Sunday, by God's grace, I stand in the very pulpit he preached this sermon from, 54 years ago, and without hesitation, believe those things he once delivered unto the saints.
