Sermon Summary

Elder Bernard Gowens

April 29, 1934 - January 31, 2023

The following message was delivered at Pulaski Primitive Baptist Church in Virginia. At that time, Elder Jay Harris was the Pastor. The recording includes the complete service with prayer and hymn singing.

Elder Bernard Gowens introduces the message with general points from John chapter 3 on regeneration. But he proceeds to his text, John 3:16.

The main subject is "The Foundation and Commendation of God's Love."

What a sermon to highlight as Brother Bernard approaches the love of God with zeal for God, his love for the church, and doctrinal soundness. He mentions two parallel lines; God's glory and man's idolatry. These topics are as relevant today as when he preached them. (We don't have a date for this preaching appointment.)

The main body of the message is sectioned by the Source - Magnitude - and, 3rdly, the Commendation of God's love.

Elder Gowen expands on God's love in action, distinguishing it from God's foreknowledge because it is God's love to you through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Lord. That is love in action.

Then there is that little adverb, 'so.' But brother Gowens speaks of the four dimensions of that love; how much did God -so- love His people?

God's love is everlasting! He'll never end that love for you!

Isn't that a wonderful thought? Especially as we consider the recent passing of this dear servant of God. Elder Bernard Gowens departed this life for his eternal home on January 31, 2023.

His obituary is found in the Minister's Section of our website.

The message runs in two parts, so to finish, please search his sermons for John 3:16, part 2.
