Elder J.A. Rowell, Sr. felt that Grace Primitive Baptist Church would benefit from learning about the rudiments of music used in her hymnal. He contacted Brother Harvey Bass about the prospect of holding a singing school at Grace. For years, these two men, who had a great love for the Lord and His Church, discussed and prayed about the matter. They agreed there would be no other purpose for the week; no other activities outside the focus of learning to sing these hymns, and the fellowship that naturally flows from time spent with kindred in Christ. In 1972, the Grace Church was united in their support for this work, and the Lord blessed their efforts. In the forty years since many more “singing schools†have been held at Grace. It has been a benefit to the Grace Church, as well as sister Churches whose members have attended.
