Elder Horace Edward Harris, better known as Elder H. E. Harris was born February 27, 1908 in Washington County, Florida to James and Minnie Cook Harris. He was raised among the Free Will Baptists. On June 13, 1929 he married Lela Wells, a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church of Bonifay, FL. They had three sons, Kenneth Harris, Elder Ralph Harris, and Deacon Howard Harris.
In the beginning he was very opposed to the Primitive Baptist Faith but the more he heard of it and tried to tear it down, the more convinced he became of the truth.
On June 23, 1940 he joined Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. On August 31, 1941 he was ordained an Elder. He was well known and respected among the churches of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. He had a strong speaking voice and a delivery that was easily understood by all. He was well versed in the doctrine and practice and was a strict disciplinarian. He pastored New Mount Zion Church near Samson, Alabama, Tired Creek Church near Cairo, Georgia, St. Andrew Church in Panama City, Florida, New Hope Church near Alachua, Florida, and Enterprise Church, in Enterprise, Alabama.
He fought a good fight, he kept the faith, and he finished his course January 29, 1983 and was laid to rest in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. |
