Bobby Collins

FROM THE BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF PRIMITIVE OR OLD SCHOOL BAPTIST MINISTERS BY DAVID MONTGOMERY AND MARK GREEN:

ELDER ROBERT WILSON COLLINS

I was born September 30, 1946 in Northwest Alabama. I was raised among a different people than Primitive Baptists but never had any desire to join them. Through God’s providence I met my dear wife whose family were members of the Elgin Crossroads Church, Elgin Alabama. Once I was able to understand the message of the gospel I believed it.

I joined the church there and was baptized in September of 1967 by Elder L.V. Goodman. I soon began preaching the truths I had found so precious and was ordained to the ministry in April of 1972. I have pastored six churches: Elgin Crossroads, Hurricane Springs, Sweetgum Flat, and Mars Hill (all in Northwest Alabama), and Desert Hope (in Bloomfield, New Mexico). Currently I am the pastor of Sulphur Springs Church near Aberdeen, Mississippi and have preached in eighteen states.

Elder Bobby Collins, age 69 of Killen, Alabama departed to be with Christ on Wednesday October 14, 2015 following a lengthy illness.

Bro. Bobby was ordained to the full work of the gospel ministry in 1972 and served as pastor of the following Primitive Baptist Churches: Elgin Crossroads, Elgin, Alabama, Sweetgum Flat, Lexington, Alabama, Hurricane Springs, Anderson, Alabama, Hackleburg, Hackleburg, Alabama, Desert Hope, Bloomfield, New Mexico, Sulphur Springs, Caledonia, Mississippi, and Saint Andrews, Panama City, Florida.

While serving the Lord's churches, Bro. Bobby had a great zeal to spread the good news of the gospel of God's sovereign grace to as many people as possible. He had a unique gift for biblical evangelism and was blessed to share the truth that he so dearly loved with many who were unfamiliar with the Primitive Baptist faith.

Bro. Bobby was a great encourager to young preachers. The four men called upon to conduct his funeral service, Elders Danny Holden, Ben Winslett, Josh Winslett, and Tim Cunningham were all deeply influenced by Bro. Bobby's ministry in the early stages of their ministries.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Shirley V. (Holden) Collins, three daughters, Regina Foster and her husband Eric, Jennifer Burt and her husband Richard, and Amy Francisco and her husband Randy, one sister, Mary Collins. Seven grandchildren also survive, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.

May our gracious Lord be pleased to bless his memory, and grant that abundant spiritual fruit will continue to be borne by his influence for many years to come, to the glory and honor of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
