ELDER J. HARVEY DAILY
WRITTEN BY ELDER W. G. FLETCHER: Elder James Harvey Daily was born inAnderson County, Indiana on February 17, 1881, the fourth child of John Riley and Caroline Layman Daily, and passed away January 16, 1964, in his home in Sperryville, Virginia where he had lived for nearly nineteen years.
On November 23, 1903, he was married to Miss Selena Tyner Marsh, in Greenfield,Indiana. This union was blessed with three little boys, all of whom died in infancy, and one daughter.
Brother Daily was blessed with a sweet hope in Jesus when he was but a very young boy. He united with the Church called Mt. Tabor in Indiana in August of 1897 andwas baptized by his father. In 1901, he began exercising before the Church and on October 18, 1902, he was licensed to use his gift in the church. This act was by the Church at Mt. Carmel in Luray, Virginia, where the family had settledin 1898. It was in this church that he made his first effort in that of speaking of the goodness and mercy of God in a preaching way.
On January 16, 1904, Brother Daily was set apart to the full function of the gospelministry as a presbytery, called by Mt:. Carmel Church for the purpose, laid hands on him in ordination. (The reader will note that it was sixty years to the day from the day of hisordination to the day of his death.) He preached his last discourse (Dec. 22, 1963) with the same church in which he preached his first one (1901).
Brother Daily had labored faithfully with and among God's people in. many states andhad served as pastor of churches in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia and West Virginia. He was pastoring four churches at the time of his passing. |
