The Passing of Elder Harley Stripland

March 8, 1929 – June 5, 2016


- Elder Harley Stripland, 87 of Powderly, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. Funeral services have been set for Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Elder Vernon Johnson, Elder Jessie Stripland and Elder Jimmie Stripland officiating. Interment will follow at Long Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Harley was born in Howland, Texas on March 8, 1929 to Robert and Dixie Stripland. He pastored Mt. Paran Primitive Baptist Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Rubye Stripland; children, Jimmie Stripland and wife Janet, Jessie Stripland and wife Eileen, Carol Crawford and husband Randy, Connie Faulkner and husband Bengy, Tommy Stripland and wife Roberta; step-daughters, Dodie Zant, Janet Pham and husband Tai; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Brockway.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jeanne Stripland, parents, Robert and Dixie Stripland; daughter, Patti Rushing; sisters, Ovella Copeland and Irene Griffith.


His grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.

Elder James Compton was the original founder of the 'Gospel of Grace Tape Supply.' His collection of tapes began as he traveled to Church meetings and Associations recording sermons on Reel to Reel.
