Roy Bowles

FROM THE BIOGRAPHCAL HISTORY OF PRIMITIVE OR OLD SCHOOL BAPTIST MINISTERS BY DAVID MONTGOMERY AND MARK GREEN:

ELDER ROY W. BOWLES

Elder Bowles was born in Patrick County, Va. in 1932, he was the second of three children. His father and mother were Primitive Baptist. From his first memories in life he remembers the meetings among the Primitive Baptists in Va. and North Carolina.

As early as 9 and 10 years of age he felt a desire to praise the Lord while he plowed the field and looked toward the sky. He eventually tried two or three other denominations to find relief but could not. In August 1950, he was married to Marjorie Ann Witt and together they were baptized by Elder L. J. Corns in 1957.

He made his first effort to preach one month later and was ordained one year after uniting with the Good Home Churchin Axton, Va. Elder and Sister Bowles have three children.
